October 31, 2017

Northwestern Mutual, through its Foundation, announced today a five-year partnership as the presenting sponsor of the Donald Driver Foundation’s Driven to Achieve Awards, a Milwaukee-based charitable event that has donated more than $1 million to charitable organizations in the past four years.

“The Donald Driver Foundation shares Northwestern Mutual’s vision of creating a positive impact in our community of Milwaukee and in other communities like it across the country,” said John Schlifske, chairman and CEO of Northwestern Mutual. “We’re proud to join forces with Donald and his organization which celebrates the contributions of those initiating and leading change in their communities.”

Donald Driver’s Driven to Achieve Awards recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of multiple charities, companies and community leaders on a national and local level. Nationwide, the public is encouraged to nominate individuals they feel deserve to be recognized for the impact they have made in the community. The black-tie awards event is attended by notable guests each year, such as seven-time Grammy Award winner Gladys Knight, Black-ish producer and lead actor Anthony Anderson, and former Good Morning America host Josh Elliot.

As part of the partnership, a Northwestern Mutual Leadership Award will be present annually at the Driven to Achieve Awards event. In addition, a Northwestern Mutual representative will also join the Driven to Achieve advisory board to choose the final award nominees and help to shape the annual event.

The Donald Driver Foundation is focused on initiatives that support underprivileged children and families, community health, wellness and safety as well as education and career development. Through these programs, the foundation has helped hundreds of families escape poverty, provide more than 1,000 students with educational resources and nutritious meals and granted over $100,000 in scholarships.

As part of its own philanthropic efforts, Northwestern Mutual focuses locally on advancing education, revitalizing neighborhoods and making its hometown of Milwaukee a great destination. Nationally, the company supports research to find cures for childhood cancer and support for families going through treatment.
